A long wait for a 2WW referral.

Hi, my GP did a breast exam and has found a lump in my upper right breast (I can actually feel at least 3) she said she would refer me for a 2 week wait appointment at the breast clinic; that was a week ago. Today I received a letter saying my appointment is on the 4th of March, so almost two months away! Now, I wasn't bothered when I knew I had lumps, but now my GP has felt it and thinks it requires a 2WW consult I'm thinking. Another 7 weeks is a long time to wait!

has anyone else come across this situation?

  • Hi lillytan,

I had to wait 6 weeks for my appointment. They said because of the current situation in the hospitals. I even rang to go go private as it's such a constant worry isn't it. The not knowing.. but they said they couldn't do it any sooner either. I found researching totally stressed me out so tried to keep off google.. ring and ask if they have a cancellation list that may help.. try and stay positive x

  • Thank you for your reply! Yes it seems like too long a wait, especially when the 2WW is offered due to the possibility of breast cancer, and then to be told 7 weeks! The irony is: I've known the lumps were there for a long time, but now my GP has also felt them makes it more "real" and the fact that she felt I ought to be fast tracked to the 2WW instead of just the regular "I'll send you for a mammogram" makes it all more worrying. I actually wish I'd not gone for my GP check up now as I'm obsessing over my right breast haha. If you've not had your appointment met I wish you all the best to you.
