Here for advice newly diagnosed.

Hi there,

Got referred for a cytoscopy a few years ago after blood in my urine. Ultrasound was clear but clinic dismissed me  because missed two appointments on the trot but never had the camera test.  Blood in urine not noticeable or painful so was notoverly concerned.

Refered after xmas to urology for a cytoscopy after blood in my urine and smelly urine. Had an ultrasound and a ct scan both before cytoscopy and never asked anything as on my own and doctors didn't offer up much so again wasn't to concerned. Weds 13th Jan cytoscopy and doctor told me I have two or more red  patches of cancer. Being booked in for a biopsy, in next 4 weeks.

My worries are :-  was there cancer there all the time and could it have spread already ? . No pain no incontinence.

The waiting is killing me. Have told noone but my best friend. She is coming with me when get an appointment for the biopsy.

  • Hello Jan789

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been diagnosed with bladder cancer. Understandably it's a difficult time for you and you have lots of questions.

We know that this period of waiting for further tests and results can be really difficult for many people and it's natural that you're feeling anxious. I'm glad that you've been able to tell your best friend and that she will be there to support you at the next appointment.

In the meantime, you might find it helpful to have a chat with one of our team of nurses. I'm sure they will be able to give you some information and support and they may be able to help you think about the kinds of questions that you might want to ask your Consultant. If you would like to speak to them they're available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you.
Going to phone the nurses when I get a chance. I never seem to be on my own.

  • Update heard nothing so really nervous.

Phoned booking number on my cytoscopy letter and I have a biopsy on the 2nd Feb. Pre op next week. They sent the letter out today.

At least I know when its happening doesnt make me any less anxious though.
