Worry - HPV, no abnormal cells

Hi new on here

Got told I have hpv in July last year but no abnormal cells, went into complete panic, dr was pretty useless, told me not to think about it!

Have my check in July this year, I get more worried as every month passes.

Just wondering if anyone else has a second check coming up, or ig they've had any news on their second check.

Think ive bored my husband to death with it, would be nice to hear something positive about this wretched virus

Thanks

  • Hi,

HPV is really common, and most people get it at some point.  They usually don't know they've got it, or even if they've ever had it!  Just because it has been linked with cancer, doesn't mean everyone that contracts HPV will get cancer either.  If you don't have anything abnormal - that's brilliant news!

I had one of the 'HPV cancers' - penile cancer, and I always get really anxious about cancer recurring around scan time.  I think it's really normal to be concerned, but if your doctor can't reassure you, it's fine to go and get a second opinion.

    Good luck with your checkup!

  • Hi,

I had HPV with no abnormal cells from my smear test back in December 2017 and then another one in December 2018. That second smear came back negative for HPV. I was a bit like you when I seen it, but took the part of no abnormal cells as good news. Try to not fret about it, I know that's easier said than done.

Hope the follow up is good news for you.
