Imaging clear but lump biopsy taken

Hello

i had an appt for a slow growing lump under my left breast in the breast bone area. Mammo, tommo and uss all nad!!

breast surgeon has taken 3x biopsy from the area and got ftf appt next week. They also gave me Macmillan contacts.

not sure what the fuss is?! If my imaging was all clear, why the biopsy? I've already told myself can't be the big C. Anyone else had similar experience?

thanks

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat, Mars123.

I was pleased to hear that nothing of immediate concern was found in the tests your medical team ran on you but I can appreciate why they wanting to have that lump under your left breast biopsied can sound like a contradiction. Sometimes what I find is that doctors just want to be thorough and rule out all possible scenarios.

Hopefully, others who had a similar experience will come along shortly to chat with you but until then keep up with positive thoughts.

    All the best,

    Hi Mars,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I know that it is confusing to have to have a biopsy when all other tests have come back clear. As Renata has said, most doctors just use this as a belt and braces approach to be absolutely certain that their diagnosis is accurate. Whilst the tests that you have had can show up breast lesions, the only way to ensure whether they are benign or not is to carry out a biopsy.

I have had 3 lumps removed so far. According to my consultant all three looked as if they were cancerous. The first and third were, but fortunately the second was benign. Thies results only showed up on biopsy.

Do please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
