Hi All Newbie Here

Hi All

I was diagnosed with HPV+ tonsil cancer in November and am now 6 weeks post op following robotic surgery to remove the diseased blighter. I start 5 weeks Radiotherapy next week. Any tips? I have special prescription toothpaste and soft toothbrushes ready but what sort of cream can I use on my skin to help with the soreness and promote healing? I'm also concerned about the long term effects to my mouth (dryness etc) and teeth, how have you fared? Did your saliva come back? Luckily my teeth are currently ok according to the hospital dentist and I'd like to keep them that way. I have planned on a soft or liquid diet post week 2 as I'm sure it will be pretty horrid. I've got higher dose protein powder smoothies with fruit and veggies planned, what sort of things did you find were easy to eat during treatment that were nutritious? What offering can the dietitian provide as I want to avoid high sugar energy type shakes that look to be what they can prescribe.

thanks in advance all!

    Hi SewQueen,

    Welcome to our forum.

I notice that nobody has replied to your post yet, but just wanted to welcome you to the forum. I am afraid that I cannot answer your questions as I am a breast cancer lady. Have you discussed these concerns with your nurse? They are usually very helpful with advice on what creams, etc to use. You can also get artificial saliva sprays, which might help post-operatively.

It can be helpful to draw up a list of questions before you speak to her. This is a good way to ensure that you don't forget anything important.

I hope that your radiotherapy goes well. Hopefully, someone with more experience of tonsil cancer will come along to chat to you soon.

Do please keep in touch and let us know how you are getting on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thanks Jolamine

I've been searching the site and doing some reasearch and have discovered the Throat Cancer Trust's website which has quite a bit of useful info and personal experiences which will really help. I know the treatment is going to be very hard but I do have a light at the end of the tunnel. I just have to get through it and out the other side
