Shared care for children during cancer scare and lockdown

Hi,

I'm being investigated for cancer and I'm just wondering what the guidelines are for sharing care of children during lockdown?

Obviously I will want to keep safe but I have two children. One is biological mine, so sees her father a few times a week. The other is my step daughter who we see a few times a week.

I'm hoping this won't have to stop? They are our children so surely we just do what we can instead of avoiding contact with others (I.e my daughters father seeing her, my stepdaughter being allowed to come over).

Any advice would be great!

  • Hello JessGiraffe69,

Looking at the government's national lockdown guidelines which you can find here, it mentions that there are still circumstances in which you are allowed to meet others from outside your household, childcare or support bubble in larger groups, but this should not be for socialising and only for permitted purposes. One of the exceptions is indeed "arrangements where children do not live in the same household as both their parents or guardians" so it sounds like you would still be able to keep current childcare arrangements in place as the children's parents are separated. I would double check though just to be sure what the exact rules are on this but it sounds like the guidelines have remained the same to allow children to see both parents.

    I hope this helps.

    Best wishes,
