Ca125

Hi, so I had an "incidental" finding of raised ca125 in early December of 370....... Urgent referall to gynae who did an internal exam, no obvious masses and not "unduly" concerned she said. Ordered an urgent mri which I had 3 days ago was told to wait upto 14 days for report. I had bloods redone yesterday to check for ca125 levels. I've put off panicking and concentrated on kids and Christmas up to now. But I just feel like this waiting is too much (hence being awake at 3am) I mean what if the CA125 is raised further and I still don't have mri results. Now beginning to worry and panic

  • Hello MrsW72,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum. I am sorry to hear about your raised CA125 and I hope you get the results soon of the latest CA125 and that you won't have to wait too long for your MRI results. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting for these important results. You did the right thing though in trying to concentrate on the kids during Christmas and up to now.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to carry on with your strategy of keeping busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi so I had bloods done also. Ca125 came back 56 was sent for ultrasound didn't show anything apart from thickening of the womb but said could be my period. Was speaking to doctor she was happy with ultrasound but was sent to gynaecologist. Had that trans vaginal ultrasound. Womb look clear. Everything look clear apart from she said I had pcos. But was happy with me. She repeated ca125. But wasn't to concerned about the bloods. They go more on what the scans tell them. As ca125 can be raised for lots of things apart from cancer. Received a call that I was referred for a ct scan. I rang go to find out why. Said my ca125 raise to 67. She said that she has lots of patients who had raised levels and was something simple like bowel inflammation or cyst or Endometriosis or infection. Had my scan on the 29th. Just waiting for results. The wait is the worse.

  • Hi, I have been reading the thread and was just wondering how you went on did you manage to get your results ? I am also going out of my mind with worry I had a blood test last week and the CA125 results came back at 60 so the doctor has got me an emergency appointment with the gynaecologist next week but I'm worried sick I can't sleep very much and I have been put off my food I'm 42 and I've got two young children so I'm so worried about it. Hope you are well & have good results x

  • Hi try not to worry. I know how it feels I was so worried. So my first test was 56 then was red flag for ultrasound. Just showed thicken womb. But could of been time of period due. Was then red flag to gynaecologist she done trans vaginal ultrasound and everything look good. But I was diagnosed with pcos. She repeated my ca125 it came back raised at 67. So they booked my in for ct scan. Had the scan and 3 weeks later came back completely normal. Gynaecologist also said that she wasn't worried about the bloods as anything can raised them. Infection inflammation, your period cyst. Ibs any inflammation in the body. She also said she be more worried if it was in the high hundreds and someone normal ca125 can be higher. Try not to worry. You want to know anything just ask

  • Thank you so much for your reply I'm going out of my mind with worry I can't seem to eat anything because of the anxiety but I'm trying to eat little bits to keep my strength up. Every time I look at my two girls I just want to cry because I'll be heartbroken if I died and they were left without me. So do you think my CA 125 being 60 isn't as bad as I am thinking it is ? I've never in my life been in this position before so it totally freaked me out I'm so tired but I just can't switch off and go to sleep if I do it's probably an hour I'll get & it's making me feel drained but I keep going because I've got my little family. My problem started about two months ago around the ovary area if I've got jeans on I can feel like a pressure there but if I feel with my finger I can't feel any lumps and it doesn't actually feel so it's strange to describe. The only other thing is for the past two months I've had one day of my period where I've had heavy bleeding and really bad cramps I've never had this before so that's why I thought I would contact the doctor. I'm hoping I've just got a cyst because about 10 years ago when me and my husband were trying for a baby I had a transvaginal scan and it showed I had a small cyst on my ovary but it was nothing to worry about then we eventually got pregnant and had two girls which was lovely. They are 4 and 8. The only other thing I can tell you is when I had my blood test I was on my second day of my period so do you think that could've made the CA 125 rise ? Apart from everything I feel fine with no other symptoms. Thank you for messaging me back. I really appreciated it xx

  • I bet you that's why your ca125 was raised because you where on your period. I was having pain to at bottom of my stomach and where my ovaries are. I felt the same as you, I have A little boy and was feeling the same that's why I came on here. 60 definitely not high and with you being on your period can't definitely raise it. Or a small cyst. I was totally freaked out. But honestly I don't think you have anything to worry about. You will be fine. There just checking you over they have to do it. Your feeling drained because of the worry of this. Keep in touch and anything u want to ask, I'm here anytime no matter how small. Because I know what it feels like xx

  • Also I was told they should never do that ca125 when you are on your period

  • Hi, Thanks for your reply again you're making me feel so much better. Today my anxiety is at its worst from all the worry on this week hopefully by the weekend I will start to feel better. Yes it's very unfair that they don't tell you about not having a blood test on your period because it's caused all this upset and anxiety especially to me and obviously a lot of other ladies. What did they do about your cyst and what can they do for your PCOS ? xx

  • Most woman have small cysts before there period and go away by the next one. Pcos they really don't give u treatment. They can help with fertility and I'm on a pain med tablet. If I have any problems I can return to see gynaecologist. Yes try not to worry. I say it's definitely your period that made it rise and could be a small cyst. Ca125 is not a reliable test because anything can raise it and with your being so low. I'd say it's your period or cyst. They should not do that test on anyone period. I've read other places woman levels raise while on there periods and doctors saying that should ask if a woman on it or not. Gp just do the tests and if it's over normal range they have to refer you. Try to relax and don't worry. You will be fine. Let me know how u get on. And anything u want to ask I'm here thanks
