Lump in breast

I found a lump in breast 14 dec confirmed by doctor its 4cm appointment time should be 2 weeks appointment at hospital is 8th jan I know its bad time right now and appointments delayed should I be worried.

  • Hello I had a grade 3 - 5cm cancerous lump found in March this year during the first lockdown week. My treatment hasn't been delayed at all and the hospital have been great. I wouldn't worry that sounds quite quick for an appointment. They are amazing in the NHS try not too worry.

    Hi Kezzer,

We all tend to panic when we are referred to the breast clinic, but there is no need. This is to rule out anything nasty as much as it is to find anything untoward. The length of time you've waited doesn't seem untoward considering that you have had the holiday break to deal with as well as Covid.

Not all lumps are cancerous, there can be a number of simpler causes. Only 1 person in every 8 referred to the clinic will get the diagnosis that none of us want to get. I hope that all turns out well for you. You are likely to have some tests carried out and may then have to wait a further 1-2 weeks for the results.

Do please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kindest regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Helen. Can I just ask, what type of cancer were you diagnosed with? DC OR IDC? Just been diagnosed myself and trying to remain calm. Thanks. Sara

  • Hi Sara

I was diagnosed with HER2 and ER positive breast cancer. I'm sorry to hear of your diagnosis it's a lot to take in but the treatments they have now are amazing. What type do you have and what treatments are you having?

Do lots of things you enjoy, whatever works for you - a walk or a nice bubble bath, a chat with a friend it all helps.

    Much love Helen xxx

  • Hi Helen

Thanks for getting back to me.

I've just been diagnosed, last week. Alm I know so far is that I have ER positive invasive ductal cancer. I have a breast mri on Monday and an appointment with the surgeon on the Thursday where I should find out more. Was yours invasive?

I do try and distract myself but i find it pretty much impossible. The not knowing more is making me extremely anxious

    Thanks

  • Hi Sara

Yes mine was a grade 3 I have gone through surgery, chemo, radiotherapy and herceptin which I'm still having. Although at times it can be hard I was just so grateful that I had treatment and nothing was delayed. You will cope with whatever comes your way much more than you think and will be stronger at the end. It's good you are on the path to getting sorted that's the most important thing.

Take care and any questions don't hesitate to ask xx
