Anal Cancer

Hi, im new on here having just joined and wanted to say hi.

I found 2 small lumps back in November. I had no other symptoms at all. One minute the lumps weren't there the next they were.  After having a bit of an delay to start with the referal, the hospital initially rejected it as the doctors didn't sort out blood tests to support it. It took me chasing things to get things moving. My first appointment was to have a flexible cystoscopy and examination. During the cystoscopy they also found 5 polyps. None of these were bleeding. The lump he said he wanted to do an investigation under general anesthestic at which point they would biopsy or remove the lumps and he also wanted me to have a colonoscopy and polypectomy. On the 9th December I went in for the investigation under GA and one of the lumps were removed.  The wound area left was quite large and very sore and i then got an infection. 2 weeks of antibiotics its still is a bit on the tender side but soooo much better. My colonoscopy is on the 30th. I had a call on 22nd of December asking me to go in the next day to see the consultant and half an hour later a call booking me in for a CT scan. It was at this point I knew it potentially wasn't good  news. At my appointment with the consultant he said that they had removed one of the lumps which measured 1.5 cm by 1cm and that within the lump was 5mm of cancer cells. He also said that they like to have 1mm margin and they didn't have this with me. He said I would also need a MRI and a PET scan and once these results were back they would have a meeting to discuss. The CT scan and MRI were both done yesterday. Feeling a mix of emotions at the moment but staying positive. I would love to hear from anyone who has been through or is going through this.

  • Hi Jussy

I'm doing ok, still wearing my positive pant. ive had all my scans now so hoping I will be on the MDT meeting tomorrow and will know what is going to happen next. I had my colonoscopy and polypectomy on the 30th where they removed 32 polyps and ive got to go back to have more removed. They weren't causing me any issues and I would be non the wiser had I not found the lump. Because there are so many they need to refer me to a genetic specialist  to assess if ive got an underlying condition. I just glad the hospital are really on the case and looking after me so well.
