Red mark on breast; worried about IBC

Hello. 2 days ago I noticed a very red mark on my upper breast (outer side, breast not chest) that essentially looked like a third nipple. It doesn't seem raised, I've not been bitten, I don't think it's swollen. Now 48 hours later the redness has reduced slightly but I can see there's what looks like broken blood vessels around it. Due to Christmas/bank hol I won't be able to get a GP appointment until Tuesday. I do have health anxiety particularly around breast cancer as I know a disproportional amount of people who have been diagnosed relatively young.

im 34, haven't had a baby or breastfed for 4 years, have large breasts and am overweight but not obese.

the closest thing I could find online that may look similar is a spider nevi, but this seems related to IBC. I have photos but cannot see a way of adding them to my post

I would be so grateful for any advice or previous experiences as this is playing on my mind massively and I cannot focus. Thank you.

  • Hello Peanutdust20

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some concerns about changes in your breast that you've noticed recently.

It's good to hear that you're planning to contact your GP this week. It's always sensible to get these concerns checked out.

I'm sorry to hear that you know quite a number of people who have been diagnosed with cancer at a young age. That certainly will be adding to your anxiety but do try to remember that even if you are referred to breast clinic, the majority of people referred do not go on to be diagnosed with cancer.

I hope that you're able to speak to the GP and that they are able to offer you some reassurance about things.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi ....

Can I ask how you got in at your GP?

I am 28 and in early pregnancy. Around 2 weeks ago I noticed a little bruise around 2cm.
When I looked closer it was a little cluster of red veins.
I have no other symptoms. I've been the doctors and they have gave me some steroid cream. So I am just keeping an eye on it for a week xx

  • Hi Farmgirl

Thank you to Jenn for your reply.

Farmgirl my GP was not concerned. I actually went three times to 3 different GPs as the mark did not go (although it did fade and has never looked as red as it did the first 2 days it appeared). Each one said it was a skin issue not a breast issue. Hope this reassures you. My mark is still here several weeks on but as I said, looks a lot less obvious then it did. I do find if I sleep on that side sometimes it's more pink the next day. I have been moisturising. At one point I was prescribed daktacort as they thought it was either fungal or eczema. It did improve slightly with this. I am very pale in that area so I think this makes the mark much more noticeable. X

  • Thank you so much for replying so quick.

yes I'm really pale too, and obviously my boobs are changing loads at the moment. I am prone to excema and have had it all my life which is kind of reassuring.
I will just keep an eye on it over the next few weeks.
You just panic when you start to look online.
    Thank you again xx

  • Can I ask if this disappeared for you guys? I have pretty much exactly what you are talking about and I'm terribly worried. Seems to have faded but like yourself I find that it's abit more pink on a morning too - heading back to GP this week

  • When I looked closely at mine it was a small bunch of tiny red veins ... (spider veins they called them) but they went in time. Always best to get checked out though to put your mind at rest xx
