Painful small lump right armpit please help!

Hey guys, I've never posted on here before so I hope nobody minds that I'm asking for advice. Basically 3 days ago I noticed a small pea sized lump in the right armpit which was painful to touch and now it's swollen my armpit, it's now painful to even have my arm resting down because it feels to be pushing on the lump. It is slightly red too.  Does anyone know what this sounds like? I can't see any ingrown hairs but not to say it isn't that.

it's just constantly hurting/throbbing! I don't want to waste my gps time, but I can only find info about non painful lumps online so thought I'd ask on here before.

Thanks in advance xx

    Hi Kidneybeanz,

Welcome to our forum. You certainly won't be wasting your GP's time. As you've already discovered painless lumps are more the norm, so here's hoping that there is nothing untoward.

Please let us know how you get on.

    Kindest regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hiya.

I experienced this same thing. The lump started small and i believed it was an ingrown hair or a little boil.

It would get bigger and bigger and hot and painful. Lots of checks and antibiotics. Eventually it got so big I went to A&E.The dr said it needs draining. I was booked in the next day for surgery to remove the lump.

After, the surgeon said it looks like HS. Hidradenitis suppurativa. Its a condition that affects the armpits, groin, etc. Give it a Google. And keep the area clean. And try and get an appointment with your doctor. It may grow big, and may pop.  But do not try to pop it yourself.

If it turns out that is isn't HS, keep an eye on it and try to not use razors for a while incase its an ingrown hair.

Please keep us updated. Wish you all the best  x
