Need someone to talk to, mum has myelomonocytic leukaemia

Hello to anyone reading this.

I'm reaching out for some support, my mum just told me today that she has Myelomonocytic leukaemia, I'm a 49 year old man, but on hearing the news I have done nothing but sob like a child. She's told me that it's incurable and having done my own research I see that she might only have a couple of years left.

I live in Dundee, Scotland and the rest of my family live in North Yorkshire. With Covid happening I haven't seen very much of my family, in fact its nearly over a year ago. Me and my mum are really close, we are very similar in character and in humour, which is great because she's a wonderful person.

I'm just looking for someone to talk to, my mum hasn't got much information back from the doctors so she really is in the dark about it all.

I would love to hear back from like minded people, I really don't know what to write here as I have never reached out to anyone like this before.

Thank you in advance

  • Hi Gtp,

Thanks for your reply and hopefully you and your family have a great Christmas too. I am gonna go see my mum after Christmas, she said that I have to act normally round her as she couldn't cope with me crying so I am going to have to man up.

    All the best
