Raised ca125 levels

Hi all,

I guess I wanted to write something for reassurance or just to get off my chest.

I'm 22 and have had a history of constant bloating and abdo pain for the past 9 months. I put it beside my head until I noticed i was losing weight without any changes to my diet or exercise routine. Work pushed me for a GP review which I finally did and my blood tests reported my Ca125 levels are 58. Now I know I shouldn't panicbat this stage but I can't help the thoughts in my head as my nan had ovarian cancer and passed away from it. I know there's many differential diagnosis but wanted to see if anyone had any experiences like myself? The GP has referred me for an urgent gynae appointment but I've never had one before so what should I expect?

I just feel really alone!

  • Hi there

Please do not panic, I know it's easy for me to say, but I'm sure everything will be ok. It is normal procedure for your GP to refer on the 2 week rule if they have any doubts or concerns, especially if your CA125 is higher than 35.  However, it can be raised due to endometriosis, cysts or just being on your period, so don't worry. I've had raised levels, all down to endometriosis and I've got a history of cysts.
When you go for your gynae appt, they may do an ultrasound or a transvaginal ultrasound just to check your womb and ovaries.  It doesn't hurt.  The gynaecologist will go over your results and will discuss treatment if any.  It's all very relaxed and I'm sure you'll be reassured.

Take care and try to stay calm x
