Lung nodule on CT scan

Hi,

ive just registered as a new user as have been worrying myself stupid for the last 3 days and have been desperately googling (probably a mistake!) trying to find out more info.

i had a CT scan of my bowel last week (unconnected to this question) and received a call this week to say all ok with bowel. However the scan did pick up a 9mm nodule on left lung which needs further investigation and I'm waiting for another CT scan appointment.
The nurse made a point of saying it was small and probably nothing to worry about but Ive done nothing but worry since her call!.
My medical background doesn't help with my worry - I'm a 54 yo smoker and my father died of lung cancer aged 65 and his mother died of lung cancer aged approx. 70.

Ive read such conflicting info from 9mm being small and unlikely to be malignant to 40% of nodules are malignant to my age, smoking, family history making it extremely likely.

I know I just need to wait for the scan but was wondering if anyone has personal experience of lung nodules and can shed a bit more light for me?. Assuming it is malignant, what is the treatment likely to be?

thank you for reading

  • Hello Woody4shoes and a big welcome to Cancer Chat!

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum. You are right, the only thing you can do right now is wait for this CT scan and many here will know only too well that waiting is the hardest thing to do.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. As you said, googling is definitely not advisable as it will never bring up anything good. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
