DIEP Flap Reconstruction

Hi,

I had a full mastectomy in September 2020 with DIEP Flap reconstruction. The surgeon used the muscle from my back but also added an implant above that. I have healed well and feel back to full health physically. However I feel my new breast is a little too full and sits quite high.

Could someone tell me if this is likely to soften and drop and soften through time. At my last appointment with the surgeon I got the impression that this was just the way it was going to be from now on - as usual, it wasn't until after that this sunk in and I thought of all the questions I didn't ask!

  • Hi Just-Lorna,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It's good to hear that you have healed well and are feeling good generally.

It's always common to think of questions after the appointment so I can completely understand that.

While I'm not able to advise on your question, my reply here will boost your post so that more people will see it and hopefully others with similar experience to share will be along soon.

It may also be helpful to browse or search (using the button in the blue bar above) the forum for other relevant discussions on this.

And if you would like to talk anything through with our nurses, who may be able to provide some advice, then you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best,
