Appointment waiting times

Would appreciate any thoughts in relation to appointment waiting times for breast clinic. My 26 yr old daughter  was referred to the breast clinic following a phone consultation, having discovered a small lump and unusual sensation. Have currently been waiting 8 weeks , no appointment as yet she has called twice to be informed that there is a backlog. Phoned again today to be told that she may not receive an appointment for another 2 weeks. Her mom had a bilateral mastectomy following cancer diagnosis 19 years ago , so a history within the family , she is based in Birmingham. Have tried contacting PALS no change , at a loss as what to do now. Asked for a referral in other areas to be told you would go to the bottom of the lists. Totally stressed.

  • Hello ttwoody

I'm sorry to hear that your daughter is waiting for an appointment at breast clinic at the moment. I can understand that this will be a worrying time for her.

Unfortunately we're seeing lots of members post about increased waiting times due to the impact that Covid19 is having on services across the country.

I wonder if it may be worth getting in touch with the hospital to see if they have a cancellation list. If your daughter is able to attend an appointment at short notice then she may get an appointment sooner.

It may help you to know that the majority of women who attend breast clinic are not diagnosed with cancer so try to keep positive about things.

I hope she has some news soon.

    Best wishes,
