Hello

My name is John and I have just joined this forum. I am a 66 year old single man who has recently been diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer which has spread to the Pleura. I am still in full time employment and work privatey as a counsellor. After much consideration and research I have declined the "radical chemotherapy! and radiotheapy that was offered to me. I do not want to upset any one on here by my decision but hope that this forum will provide a safe place for me to explore my thoughts and feelings and relate to others. This is all about making the choice that is right for oneself and I do not want to hear any negative feedback from those who have taken a different path. I hope to gain support from those who are not judgemental about my decision and wish to offer support about what is to come. In return I hope to provide support and empathy to others facing the biggest challenge of their lives. Best wishes to you all and I hope to get to know some of you through ths portal.

Best wishes

  •  Hey, John.

I am not a cancer patient myself, but am so sorry to hear what happened to you. I am sure it was hard to decide whether to accept chemotherapy and other treatment and I am sure you did what you felt it was right for you.

I feel for you deeply and hope you are doing well. Feel free to write whatever you are thinking and how you are feeling.

     Best wishes.

  • Hi dianevictoria,

Thank you so much for your kind words. Already I am beginning to feel at home here.

    All the best

  • Hi there and welcome to our little chat room...

Please don't worry ... there's so many different opinions on here if you asked for both sides ... but I've found on here nothing but support ... which ever you decide is right for you ... it is totally up to you ...

I also wouldn't go for chemotherapy.... but I have lots of underlying health issues ... and no one family or on here have ever said a word to try to change me ... l think everyone should weigh up their own pros and cons and if they want treatments to try to lengthen their life , then that's fine by me and I'll support them .. if on the other hand someone wants quality over quantity.... that's fine too .. we each have to choose which path is write for us ...

So I think you'll get lots of support on here ... sinse my masectomy in 2017 , I've taken every day as a bonus... looked for something in each day to make me smile ... and my last thing I'll do is, stick two fingers up to cancer as I go ... so any time you want to chat or vent , I think you'll be most welcome ... so may you have lots of bonus days / weeks / months or years ... pack a lifetime in to that time and make as many memories as you can ....   chrissie x

  • Ah Chrissie,

Your words are music to my ears and have eally made me feel confortable and like I am in the right place. Since my diagnosis I feel I am living so much more in the moment and taking life as it comes. It is an amazing process. I look forward to talking with you and others soon.

    Best

    John

  •  I forgot to add that you contact me on here via private messaging and I will write you so we can talk whenever you will need to.

  • Hey there! Thank you for being so brave. My Mum has terminal lung cancer and I am researching EVERYTHING (as I would lol). Perhaps you can consdier looking into an alkaline diet? Mum has chosen the chemo route (palliative only) but I have seen some amazing stuff come from results from alkaline food ie: raw veg and fruit etc, may be an alternative that you could be interested in.

If you are not interested, then that is totally your choice and 100% respected and I wish you the best in all you do. I am also here to chat! There is no right or wrong way, we are all walking in the dark with cancer, and all have our own choices. You are very brave to walk your own path and hope you are doing well.

  • Hi there,

We are just stepping in to remind you that our rules do not permit advocating alternative treatments and we have to be very careful that our members aren’t misled into refusing tried and tested conventional treatments and replacing them with alternative treatments which at worst could be dangerous and at best will have absolutely no benefit at all.

Unfortunately there are a lot of claims with regards to miracle cures which are not evidence based and it is important that you don’t embark on any of these without first talking to your medical team.

You suggested replacing chemotherapy with an alkaline diet. We have some myth busting information on Alkaline diets you should read which you’ll see describes this as ‘biological nonsense’.

Thank you for your understanding with this and we also want to wish your Mum all the very best.
