Been waiting over 2 weeks for breast appointment

Hi out there

I had an appointment with my GP just over 2 weeks ago as found a lump in my breast. I've still not heard anything regarding an appointment at the breast clinic.

What's everyone else's wait times been for an appointment  ???

I feel like I'm losing my mind one minute I'm fine and the next I'm crying thinking I won't be here next Christmas

  • Hi

I am the same, had a letter today to ring appointment line and they told me due to back log due to covid it would be 6 to 8 weeks before I would have appointment.

    I am so worried.

  • Oh my gosh that's such a long wait, it's awful the waiting and not knowing, hopefully you will get seen soon, wishing you lots of luck x

    Hi Reddies,

You are usually seen within 2 weeks, but in some parts of the country there are delays due to Covid. It still wouldn't do any harm to telephone the hospital to see whereabouts on the list you are.

The way you feel is perfectly normal. Things will become easier once you know whether or not you've got a fight on your hands. It is  usual to think the worst at this stage. Fortunately, this seldom turns out to be the case. It is a fact that only 1 person in every 8 referred to the breast clinic gets a cancer diagnosis. Cyring is a good way to get rid of some of that stress, so let the tears flow for now.

If it is of any consolation to you, I felt the same when I was waiting for my first appointment. Since then I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer, but I'm still here 11 years on and still leading a good quality of life.

Please let us know how you get on and remember that we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Deogoree,

I am so sorry to hear about the length of your wait to be seen at the breast clinic. This is always a worrying time when there are so many unknowns and 'what ifs' surrounding you. Things will become easier once you know what you are dealing with.

Our minds tend to go into overdrive at this stage. Whatever you do, don't go on to Google. This will only make matters worse. Much of the information there is poorly researched, out of date and aimed at the spectacular. You don't know whether there is anything untoward present yet and if so, what it is. If you start reading, you will automattically veer to the worse case scenarios and end up scaring yourself even further.

Have you told the hospital that you are willing to accept a cancellation? Sometimes this helps to get you seen a little sooner.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

Try to keep yourself busy meanwhile to help the wait pass a little quicker.

    Kindet regards,

    Jolamine xx
