Numerous tests on kidney, liver and colon

Hi, so I've had a whirlwind 4 weeks. Started it pregnant at 37weeks, fast forward to blood tests showing reduced kidney function; ultrasound then found a mass 7.5cm on my left kidney and some lesions on liver. Needed CT scan but as pregnant couldn't so decision to induce labour and deliver my beautiful daughter. I was hoping CT scan would confirm what the kidney mass is but only airs on it being benign but some features that don't quite fit. CT scan also raised possible polyp in colon. Discussed at urology MDT who can't tell me what issue with kidney is and have referred for MRI scan. So I'm now facing an MRI on kidney; MRI on liver (sadly can't be done at same time I'm told so separate appointments) and a colonoscopy. All scheduled for the next week. All this has been very stressful and worrying whilst caring for newborn baby plus my other two older children. If it is something sinister then I'd be grateful of accidental finding to catch early (I'm 40 and have no symptoms so wouldn't have found if not found in pregnancy) but frustrated that it has caused lots of stress at an already stressful time for potentially no reason and all benign. Fingers crossed this is the outcome but the waiting is the worst!!

  • Hello Bouncer

Congratulations on the safe arrival of your daughter! It sounds like she is keeping you busy although I understand why you're feeling frustrated. Absolutely this should be a time when you're concentrating on her and enjoying these first few weeks of her life.

I know that most all of our members here will understand how difficult this period of waiting is. The unknown can be a scary prospect to face and it's natural to feel anxious about things. Hopefully the tests that you have scheduled for this week will give the answers needed for the Dr's to understand what is going on for you and if any treatment is necessary.

Sometimes it can help to talk things through and if you think you'd like to speak to one of our nurses then you're welcome to call them. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I do hope that you have some answers and reassurance soon. Let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
