Coronavirus after radiotherapy

I have just finished my radiotherapy and my son (who lives with me) has just had a positive coronavirus test. He is isolating in his room and we are being really careful but it's probably too late. I am extremely worried - how vulnerable am I?

  • Hello EmmaJ74,

I am sorry to hear about this and I hope your son recovers well and quickly. I think the best thing to do in your situation would be to ring your medical team on Monday or perhaps it would be better if you wanted to talk to someone over the weekend to give 111 a call and see if you can speak to a doctor just to check how vulnerable you are at the moment and whether there are any special precautions you need to take.

There is information on our website on this page on coronavirus and cancer which I hope will be helpful to you. The government guidance here  will also help you determine whether are in the extremely vulnerable category or not. But I think the best thing to do would be to double check with your medical team or with a doctor over the weekend what the best course of action to take would be in your situation. Do talk to them about your specific medical circumstances and mention the fact you have just finished radiotherapy as well as the type of cancer you are being treated for.

I hope you manage to speak to someone soon.

    Best wishes,
