Referral for possible melanoma

Hi all, new here, 33 years old, 3 kids nearly all teens and married. Never had any major medical issues, so Tuesday while in the bath, I noticed a mole on my left breast which looked totally different then what it did previously. Out of curiosity I looked at a few photos where the mole was visible, and can see it's gone darker, the edges are blurry and jagged looking and it grown a little. I instantly called my doctor to get checked out, thinking he was going to tell me all was ok and not to worry. He told me he was worried, and has referred me on a 2 week referral. I am out of my mind with worry! I've read up melanoma and see it's very aggressive form of cancer ! I am so worried and stressed and don't want to talk to people because I don't want to worry people ! What do I do, how do I tell people I'm being referred? Should I wait until I know what's going on, or will I break trust with people I love for keeping this from them! I don't want to worry people if it's nothing ! My brain is going a million miles an hour then I keep feeling like I am over reacting! Help

  • Hi Holymoly, welcome to the Forum, I'm also a new member of this 'club', and have been though exactly what your describing. I'm no doctor, but think you did exactly the correct thing in getting the mole checked out straight away. Not all moles turn out to be malignet (and of those that are there are different types), but it is important to have them checked out asap. Check out the Info on Cancer Research UK on Melanoma, and don't go searching other sites e.g US ones. Especially read the Getting Diagnosed section.
I know you are feeling very worried and stressed, that's only natural, just take things one stage at a time. Your welcome to chat with me any time, or any of the many other people on this site, I'm sure one of the very nice moderators or nurses will be along stortly with some more advice. Or You may find it helpful to have a chat with one of the nurses on the helpline.  Sometimes it can help to talk things through.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
