osophagus cancer diagnosis

Hi,

I have recently been diagnosed with oesophagus cancer stage 3 and have come across this forum while googling, since the middle of September, I have had a plethora of tests and have been very well treated by the hospital staff, I’m starting my FLOT treatment in 9 days’ time a regime of 4 rounds 2 weeks apart then hopefully followed by surgery and then another FLOT regime.

  • Just phoned the doctor up for results of stool test and would you believe it, we have to wait till 15th Aug to see the doctor so now I’m obviously thinking the worst, receptionist wasn’t any help at all, wouldn’t say anything where they usually say it’s ok. So over 2 weeks wait, I’ll go mad by then Im Sure, Martin just says it’ll be ok as if not it would be earlier, let’s hope he’s right, he’s so positive xx

  • Hi Milly, yes it's updated regularly but if you scroll back you should find it ....bruised but not broken is the name of the charity

  • Hi Sue,

We had to wait but Kev’s were part of National screening. However waiting is normal. We then had a two week wait for colonoscopy but because Kev asked to the hospital that did Oesophagectomy it was a month before procedure. I think your husband is right no news is good news fingers crossed.

    keeping the faith as always

  • Thanks Lee,

I’ll have a look. To make you feel better about being hot - it’s horrible here raining and cool.

  • Hi everyone, I’m just wondering how you’re all getting on, it’s been very quiet on here so I hope you’re all ok and getting on with your life. Milly, Hilts and Redski along with everyone else I hope you’re all well.

Martins doing ok, finding it hard to put weight on, it’s up and down but so long as it doesn’t go too low I guess it’s ok.He’s eating a fair amount but it’s hard getting the calories in.

He had a colonoscopy where  6 polyps were taken off, one was a problem and needs to have another colonoscopy in 3 years.I’m taking it that that’s ok.

    Take care everyone xx

  • Hi Sue,

Lovely to hear from you Sue and that your husband is doing ok and eating more. Yes getting calories in can be difficult. Presumably you have a dietitian? I may have said before but a few suggestions are:

adding powdered milk to whole milk and butter to food

milk shakes, custard, sauces and milky coffee

    Trifle, cream cakes,

protein like eggs, fish and meat

fruit and veg that are easy to digest like stewed apple, rhubarb, mashed swede and potato

My husband is almost back to his pre diagnosis weight but still over a stone lighter than before the op. Such a good job he was able to gain weight before he started treatment although it was a long 14 week wait.

Pleased nothing sinister was found during the colonoscopy.  Keep going it sounds good news especially when you think back to his situation before the operation.

We enjoyed a wonderful Scottish road trip end August into September during the great weather. So lucky. 3 years since my husband’s diagnosis and two years since his treatment finished. Keeping everything crossed.

Hope everyone else is doing ok. Hi to Redski, Hilts, Lee and everyone on this chat. I guess we are moving forward but always here if anyone needs any suggestions or support.

still keeping the faith for everyone

    Milly

  • Hi Milly and all, good to hear from you and glad to hear your husband is doing well - keep up the good work and glad you enjoyed your Scottish road trip - we should all make as much of life as possible and enjoy ourselves at every opportunity, take care.

  • Hi Lee,

So lovely to hear from you. How are you and your family? Is it still fairly warm in Spain? I hope you’ve had a better year at your shop.

    Can’t help saying still

    Keeping the faith

    Milly

  • Hi Milly,

It still feels like a nightmare...we just all try to keep as occupied as possible to keep in control - when not working in the shop, I keep starting projects with my Mum to keep us occupied....we have just finished building a patio and now we have just started to retire our porch... it's amazing what you can do with YouTube!

The shop was busy over summer which was very good and needed but now it's gone quiet - this is the consequence of brexit-as no new Brits areusu residing in Spain ....only tourist.

It's been over 18 months now and it feels so surreal and just as bad....I guess when you have something so good, the negative of that is you have so much to lose.

Thanks for asking about us and I hope you all the luck possible you all keep winning the battle.

    Lee

  • Hi Lee,

You have all experienced a very traumatic event losing your beloved dad/husband. I think I’ve said my mum died from cancer in 1986 she was 51 and I was 24. So I can relate to your loss and losing someone too soon is a double blow. Your dad would be so proud of you all and your continued support for your mum despite your own grief. But naturally you wish he could be proud with you now. Keeping busy is good but I have learnt giving yourself time to grieve and look after yourself is also important. You were obviously so close so it isn’t something you ‘get over’. I hope you have support too Lee.

Thank you for posting and continuing to wish us all well despite your own tragic loss.

    still

    keeping the faith

    Milly x
