Lymphedema & Melonoma

Hi first time I’ve posted so hope someone can help

I have had lymphedema for over 10 years and it’s fairly well controlled. I used to be under the care of a clinic but that ended about 3 years ago so now just reorder sleeves through my GP

I have just  had an operation,  on the same arm, for a melanoma. This means that,  for the time being I can’t wear my sleeve as it goes over  the stitches and the wound is still very new. I need a shorter sleeve and would like to know where others go to get remeasured. Im petrified that my arm will get rock hard again and I’ll be back to square one again

Thanks

  • Hello MMBD1,

    Welcome to Cancer Chat.

You should contact your doctor to see where you can get remeasured. If you can no longer use the one you have, they should be able to help. There is some information here as well, which I hope is useful.

    All the best,

  • Hi MMBD1,

I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer and, have had Bilateral Lymphoedema for 11 years now and, still attend the Lymphoedema clinic. I have asked my nurse what would happen in a case like yours when I had 3 suspect Melanoma removed 3 years ago.

She told me that despite being discharged, I could always phone the clinic up if I ever had a problem. Perhaps it might be helpful to try this with your clinic too, as it should be quicker than going through your GP? She also told me that they have been working right through lockdown, so don't let this put you off.

Here's hoping that you get something sorted soon.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
