Mum had operation for Melanoma, but no treatment?

My mum had an operation 4 years ago now, to get rid of a mole on her back which they stated was melanoma. It had spread to her lymph nodes under her arm (where the mole was near) so she had them taken out and drained as well. Since then she has no other treatments, only 3 month check ups to check for other moles. Now they found something on a scan in jan/March but due to covid they've only just operated and taken it out. Mum is worried, of course, but my question is, should she have had further treatment after the last operation?

  • Hello Liiiloo,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. Unfortunately, it's really hard to know whether further treatment would have been needed after the last operation. I would imagine the specialists would have offered it if they thought it was necessary. It's good that she was given 3 months check ups but I can understand why this leaves you with some questions wondering if things could have gone differently in the past. It's a shame that there were such long delays in your mum getting an operation due to covid and that she has only just had the operation. I hope you get some clarity soon on what to expect now and what the treatment plan might be. Keep us updated if you get a chance on how things go for her!

Best wishes to you and your mum,
