Very apprehensive

I have had Right breast Lumpectomy, Sentinel Lymph Node removal and Radiotherapy. I have a Bone Density Scan at the weekend and then I will start my 5 years on Anastrozole. I am Very Scared to take these are there are so many negative side effects. Anybody had a good experience on this medication

  • Hi KizzyandSaffy,

A very warm welcome to the forum that nobody really wants to join. I am glad to hear that you have had a lumpectomy, lymph node removal and radiotherapy and that all of this is behind you now.

I have not had Anastrole, but I have had Letrozole which is another Aromitase Inhibitor. There are 3 of this group and all have similar reactions.

I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 11 years. Initially I had a lumpectomy followed by Tamoxifen for 1 year. I then discovered another lump in the same breast a year after my original surgery. This time I had a bilateral mastectomy followed by Letrozole for 6 years. I did have side-effects with both of these drugs, but I guess the fact that I am still here today is testament to the fact that they work. I was unfortunate to have these problems, but several others sail through treatment with no untoward effects at all.

Despite the adverse effects, I would take this again if I had to go through it all again.

If one treatment is giving you too many problems, your oncologist will probably change to another treatment, but it is certainly well worth trying to see if you have any side-effects.

I do hope that it all goes swimmingly for you.

Do please keep in touch. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
