Info on HPV

Hey!

just looking for a bit of advice, I recently had my smear test and it's come back that I have HPV virus. Thankful at the moment there are no abnormal cells and they just want to monitor me.

I am however I little worried as my mum had pre cancerous cells removed via a cone biopsy when she was 24, I'm now 30. I lost my mum to lung cancer 7years ago so I can't ask her if it was HPV that had caused her pre cancerous cells. I don't want to ask my dad about it as I don't know if he would know everything about her treatment or type of pre cancerous cells, but also I don't want him to worry. I just want to know if I should ask for a second smear or further checks because of my family history?

any advice would be really appreciated.

Thanks Amy x

  • Hi Amy,

So sorry to hear you sadly lost your mum it must be so hard for you

I can definitely help you with your question I'm 31 had HPV that turned in to pre cancerous cells the cells for me started at the age of 24 and by the age of 26 I had 3 treatments done to remove the pre cancerous cells. I ended up having Lletz surgery done to remove the cells and that was my last treatment as my biopsy come back negative post treatment. I am having a Hysteroscopy done next week to check in side my womb as I'm just having symptoms of cervical cancer basically so they are checking it out.

    answering your question more!

i was 24 when I had my first treatment I was to young for a smear but eye view examination showed abnormal cells! When I was 25 few months later I had a smear which showed inflammation within 2 weeks the Inflammation changed to abnormal cells. I would get a second test even go private if you can but definitely speak to your GP tell them your family history and concerns and don't leave it!!!

    Lots of love
