I have just been diagnosed with tonsil cancer

Last Thursday I was given the bad news. I am only 57 years old and have had a lump appear to the right side of my jaw which appeared about 14 months ago. I went to the Drs within a few days and was sent for an ultra sound and blood tests. I heard nothing once I had attended my appointment so went back to the Drs who informed me the bloods came back negative and the scan showed a swollen gland. There was nothing to worry about but to be sure he booked a sample to be taken. I waited for the call which never came. Then Covid struck and I was calm with the advice that I only had a swollen gland.

Then the restrictions eased and I had another lump appear near the other one so I went back to the Drs. He fast tracked me to the hospital and again I was scanned but more intensive scan than the last one. He told me we could leave it and see but it would mean me going back and forth to the hospital. Or he could take a sample and get an answer. I opted for the sample. Again I was calm as I had the advice again it was probably a swollen gland.

Then around 2 weeks later I returned back to the hospital for a scope to be incerted into my nose. I felt calm but worried was this the normal treatment? Anyhow the consultant told me I had tonsil cancer which he stated was treatable.

I am just going through tests and scans etc before my treatment starts. I have been told I will get 3 lots of chemo and 3 lots of radiotherapy.

My question is this are all the treatments the same for this type of cancer? How long does each session take and what am I likely to experience?

I am very possitive and aware we are all here for a short time and not affraid of dying but not ready yet.
