Found a lump!

Hello All,

About 3 weeks ago I found a small pea sized lump in my right breast I have seen my GP and she said the lump is defiantly there and a fixed lump (Not sure if that is good or bad) the lump is painless and no other signs of anything with the breast.

my appointment has just come through for the hospital and rather than is being in the cancer clinic it says it's in breast surgery! It's says 2WW breast surgery. Does anyone know why this might be?

Thank you

  • Hello Zoz3000

Just wanted to post a quick reply to offer you some reassurance that this is totally normal. very often appointments at breast clinic will mention seeing a breast surgeon it's simply the terminology that they use to show what the Consultant's role is.

It's probable that your appointment is in a "one stop" clinic where you will see the Consultant or specialist breast nurse who will examine you and then may request an ultrasound and/or mammogram (this typically depends on your age as breast tissue desnisty changes with age). From there sometimes the Consultant will arrange for a biopsy to be taken in clinic if they feel that they need more information about any areas identified.

There's some good information on the Breast Cancer Now website about what to expect at an appointmen. I've linked it for you here

I know how difficult this period of waiting for an appointment can be so try to stay positive and keep in mind that the majority of women referred to breast clinic are not diagnosed with cancer.

    I hope this helps.
    Best wishes,

  • Hey!

I also found a lump around the same time frame, and am awaiting my appointment to get it checked, my letter also said the same "Breast Surgery", to which I panicked too, however, was reassured by finding out that a lot of letters state this! I had a phone consultation on Friday, and am now awaiting ANOTHER letter for my actual appointment within another 2 weeks. The wait is killing me!!

I hope your appointment goes well! Update on here if you wish to!

  • Thank you for your reply,

I saw the doctor or Thursday and it will be right on 2 weeks when I go for my appointment!

It's good to know it's the right part and fingers crossed when they check it it will all be ok!

What does your lump feel like? Have you noticed it recently?

    Xx

  • Hello,

thank you for your reply! It will be right on the 2 week mark when I go so that's good in the current climate I think!

fingers crossed all is ok xx

  • Thank you so much for coming back to me!

This Infornation is really helpful xx

  • No worries at all :)

I saw my GP over two weeks ago now, then had the phone consultation, and now have to wait another 2 weeks, which is a bit of a bummer! I'm glad yours won't have been too much of a long wait!

Mine feels like a mass in my breast, I admittedly noticed a little something a few months ago, but thought it must have been a cyst, then I'd just had a few hectic months so didn't pay attention and kind of forgot, then felt it again and it had significantly grown. It now feels like a hard mass, it isn't rounded, seems to have rough edges. It can be felt very easily on the side of my breast. I can feel a a swollen lymph node near it too, which has me worried!

Fingers crossed it is nothing for both of us! Please keep me posted :)

  • did you get your results  ??
