dermoid cyst found ovary removed 23 years ago!!

Hi

i am new to this forum, i was taken to hospital with extreme abdominal pain, to the point i could not sit or stand upright with. at first they thought through xray exam it was my galbladder. the dr said it looks to have inflamation on xray and my bloods showed inflamation markers and were off. next day the consultant was thinking it was my appendix and were prepared to do operation immediately if this was found to be the case on CT scan. turns out that was not the case. i was told by the consultant that they found a dermoid cyst 60mm around ovary. so i got referred to GYNE and so when i got out of hospital i contacted my GP to ask what the procedure would be from here, and to enquire in more depth what was found on the CT scan. The DR informed me i had a dermoid cyst around my left ovary. i informed the GP i dont have a left ovary i had this removed 23 years ago while expecting my son. i was in shock...what did they find and did my ovary grow back? can anyone put my mind at ease, i am so stressed woorying what is going on. i have had two trips very recently to the breast clinic to have cysts drained and im told i have 9 more small cysts still in the breast. is this connected? is it hormones? sacred and the waiting is driving me crazy.

  • Hi laina,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I hope you're getting on OK - I'm sure this must be unsettling and the waiting for information is never easy. Hopefully the doctor gave you an idea of next steps - i.e. when you expect to find out any results or what may be required next. If you can, it's best to wait for further information from your doctor and to discuss everything with them - as it's only really your doctor who can advise on this.

In the meantime if you'd like to talk anything through with our nurses, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
