Recalled after 1st mammogram

Hi all, I'm new to the site, and am hoping for some help and advice, I had my first routine mammogram 2 weeks ago I'm 58 and requested one as my mum had breast cancer at 50, also I have had surgical induced menapause after a hysterectomy two years ago, I have received a letter today calling me back. I'm now so anxious and scared, the only thing to note is at the original appointment the girl doing the mammogram had to call a colleague in as she was struggling to get an image of all of one of my breasts so needed to do it again but after another attempt they seemed satisfied, I'm really hoping that they have just not got a picture of the whole breast, I know no one will have definitive answers for me but is this quite common to be recalled but everting be ok, I thanks each and everyone of you for taking the time to read and reply , thank you x

  • Hello Blondie1803

It's understandable that you're feeling concerned about being recalled after your mammogram. About 4% of women are recalled after a screening and it's slightly higher if it's your first mammogram. You might find it helpful to have a look at this information on the Breast Cancer Now website.

If you'd like to talk through your concerns with one of our nurses then you're most welcome to give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,
