Going for second ultrasound

Hi

6 weeks ago I noticed a lump on my 7yr olds neck. Bearing in mind he is a very active child so doesn't sit still long enough for me to see anything. Anyway he wasn't I'll, not complaining of any pain or anything, rang dr's and they said they wasn't interested in seeing him unless he has had it for 6 weeks. I went through pictures on my phone and noticed he has had it for a couple of weeks before I actually noticed. I waited 2 weeks and lump had gone bigger so rang up Dr's again, same response as last time but this time I put my foot down and got an appointment, the nurse looked and said he has a swollen tonsil on same side as swollen gland. He still didn't feel unwell, still didn't complain of any pain etc, but I noticed he has gone off a lot of food and appetite is poor, sweats loads when he sleeps and sleeps more then usual. She gave him antibiotics which didn't help and lump has got bigger, so took some blood.

All bloods came back ok but just showed inflammation. 2 weeks from that we saw consultant and he arranged for ultrasound the next day.

Now I'm worrying as had ultrasound and they are booking us in for a second one in 2 weeks to look at the size again. They said something about reactive lymphnode and glandular fever, my boy has never had glandular fever.

I'm just worried now as why would we be going back for second ultrasound scan if it's just a reactive lymphnode.

Anyone been in a similar situation and help out a worried mother at ease.

  • Hello Danib21

I'm sorry to hear that your son has had some health concerns recently. It's always a worrying time when your children are involved.

It sounds as if the hospital are being thorough in making sure that this is a reactive lymph node as they've initially thought.

It's understandable that you're feeling worried so do speak to your son's GP if you have any further concerns as they will have had an update from the hospital and may be able to answer some of your questions.

If you'd like to talk to one of our nurses about your concerns you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,
