Introducing myself & still in shock

I am 33 years old, i am married with 2 children aged 10 & 6.

I found a problem with my right breast in APRIL2020, was referred to the hospital and my doctor said to change my bras and diagnosed me with Mastalgia, breast got worse and eventually my breast had become a rock and nipple became inverted. Went back a few times and eventually i had scans and biopsies which confirmed i had Lobular cancer in my right breast that was 9.3cm and they also found something in my left and my Lymph Nodes, was told i needed a double mastectomy, and chemo and radio! Which i got my head around, then i had bone and CT and they found something suspicious on my spine, so now i am awaiting a spinal MRI with a due to start chemo on the 18th September. still in a state of shock and wondering why me?

  • Hi lauramacca5861,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm very sorry to read what you're going through at the moment, I can certainly imagine this must be a shock as you say - it sounds like it's all happened very quickly, which has probably added to the shock but it's also good that you've got some fairly quick answers and next steps in place. I hope it's not too long to wait for the MRI and hopefully at that point you'll have all the information you need and be ready to take those next steps.

I hope you find this forum useful - do continue to use it at any point, it's a very welcoming and understanding community of people and it can be helpful to simply write things down too.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Hello,

I am very sorry that you are facing this, it must be a very dfficult time for you and your family. I have everything crossed for you that the MRI comes back clear. I dont blame you for wondering why me, you are young with a young family, it is simply unfair, no one should have to face this :(

    Good luck on your journey

  • Hi [@lauramacca5861]‍ , im sorry to hear about what youre going through. My mom was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in march this year,a week after lockdown. initially her lump was 1.2cm big but after her mastectomy of the left breast they found the true size to be 5.5-5.8cm big. It had spread to 2 out of the 12 lymph nodes they took and although her bone scans were clear they found something small on her left lung, but they couldnt be sure whether this was cancer or not as it was so tiny. My mom is also undergoing chemotherapy at present and will be followed by radiation. she has just had her second round of chemo. The first week is always the bad week for her but after thats out the way she feels a lot better in herself, although this whole experience is tough. She often says 'why me, what did i do to deserve this?' and its heartbreaking to see. Life is just so cruel sometimes. I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone, and i wish you every ounce of luck and success on your journey.

Take care and stay safe x
