Bloody mucus on stools - Colonoscopy/Endoscopy next Friday

Hi all. Just wanted to say hello.  I am a 38 y/o woman with a 2.5 year old and a baby who is 8 months.

For the last 5 weeks I have been passing bloody mucus on stools.  It is like little bits of jelly with blood streaks in, occaccionally a little more.  For about a fortnight in the middle there was nothing but it is back again.  This morning's stool nothing then one at lunchtime was very noticeable.  I had already been referred for gastro due to what my family incorrectly term "grumbling appendix" for the last 16 years and then a few months ago I started getting upper middle abdomen pain. I can only describe is as feeling like my insides are on fire but only lasts a day and then I go weeks without anything. Weirdly when I am pregnant I don't have any abdominal pain.

My colonoscopy and endoscopy are next Friday.  It is at a private hospital which is something I get through work.  They have asked me to self isolate as best as possible for the 3 days before.  Tricky given my personal circumstances but I will do my best.  I have a covid swab booked for Tuesday morning.  Everyone has told me the prep is the worst element and that the throat one is more unpleasant than the bum one.  I am being sedated.

I will keep you all posted on diagnosis. I won't lie, my anxiety is through the roof as I stupidly used Dr Google.

  • Hello clahay,

I just wanted to wish you the best of luck for your colonoscopy and endoscopy next Friday. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you both while waiting to find out more.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. And you are absolutely right about Googling symptoms. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online as it will always bring up worst case scenarios. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • I wish you well for both.

I am having a colonoscopy on Monday and will be so anxious I know, a common theme for me in this type of situation.

I keep telling myself I will be a bit more informed of what might be happening inside of my body and it's a means to an end, for want of a better expression.

    Hoping all goes well.
