Father diagnosed with RCC, now worried about my own health

Hi all,

my father has been diagnosed with RCC (later stage) but we don't have much information from the doctors yet, but that.

I am struggling, a bit, to comprehend the whole thing and something just crossed my mind.

Should I be concerned about my own health? Trying to be as much support for my father as I can be but I have been worrying about my own health lately. Should be speaking to my doctor about this?

Any advise would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

  • Hi Fanda and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry about your father's diagnosis but fingers crossed you won't be waiting too long to find out more.

I think it's only natural for people to start paying more attention to their own health after finding out a loved one has cancer but unless you're feeling unwell or notice any symptoms that are unusual for you then you shouldn't need to worry.

It's good you want to make yourself more aware of the risks and you can find out more about the causes of cancer just here.

We also have some information about inherited genes and cancer risk but it may be worth giving our cancer nurses a call as they're in a better position to explain what it all means and answer any questions you have about this or your father's diagnosis. If you'd like to give them a call they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

  • Hi Steph,

Thank you for this. I will have a look. Just got really worried, as everybody else would I guess.

Either way thank you and take care,
