Breast dent - advice needed please

Hi everyone, I've had a dent in my breast with no pain for about 2.5 months. GP referred me to the breast clinic. The dr I saw was quite dismissive of the dent, he sent me for a mammogram and a scan that showed thickening on the breast although he wasnt concerned about it. The radiographer didn't scan the dent as the dr wasnt bothered about it. I had convinced myself that I had cancer because I had seen an article about a woman in the paper a few weeks ago and her dent looked exactly like mine and she had cancer. The dr said that it could be varicose veins. I am obviously pleased there is no cancer but due to his dismissive manner I feel quite uncomfortable about it. Is it possible to have cancer with a dent and tissue thickening? Do you think I should speak to my GP about my concerns? Thanks in advance. Rachael

  • Hi, if your not easy about it get it Che jed again, tell your gp your worries and how dismissive the Dr was about your dent. Ask him if you could have a second opinion or ask for mri breast scan.

May be nothing but if it's niggling at your brain persue it. Don't be fobbed off, or find out how much a private scan would be. Keep at it until your confident of the diagnosis. Good luck with it all. It maybe nothing but your not confident of that so go make noise. Xxx

  • Hi Rachael i second what Davia has suggested regarding a private scan if you get no joy with your gp. I myself have family history, had my last yearly screen at just gone 51 and have been private the last two times, although i have bee refered by my GP this time and will be going on NHS this time. Good luck and i hope it all works out for you x

    Hi Rachaeld,

I agree with both of the ladies above that, if you are not confident about the result, you should pursue this. Why don't you have a chat with your GP first and tell him'her just how unhappy you were with the doctor you saw.

Your GP is able to refer you for a second opinion if it is deemed necessary, so this is possibly your first port of call.

Do please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
