Vaginal cancer

Hi everyone, I'm 38 and was diagnosed with Vaginal cancer in January, I had it all removed in March it was very straight forward and only needed three stitches but my oncology doctor said let's just do the treatment as extra precaution , my cancer was caught very early stage 1.. I did 5 weeks chemo/radiotherapy and have felt better day by day, I'm having an mri in the week of the 7th September and go back on the 1st of October with what I hope is positive results, but I'm feeling anxious and the menopause is just awful with the hot sweats... any help or advice would be lovely thank you.

  • Hi, my name is Sarah.

How are you?  Good luck at your MRI.  I hope your treatment has worked.  I searched for Vaginal Cancer in the forum and your post came up.  What is it that you have had removed if you don't mind me asking?

I am currently awaiting my 1st gynae appointment.  I found a skin tag like growth on my lady bits in May.  It has changed from looking like a blood blister to like a very angry skin tag.  Its sore and sensitive.  My dr has done me an urgent referral.  I am struggling to find anyone who has had this and what it could be.  X

  • Hi lovely, so my cancer was not on the outside it was tucked quite far up, apparently vagina cancer comes down from your cervix mine didn't do that it just started growing there, it was very small and caught super early, but my symptoms were a foul smell and abnormal bleeding, I had a colposcopy, and the nurse saw it, but there are different types of vagina cancer some grow outside and some grow up the vagina, mine was not on the outside! Let me know if you need any advice nothing is to embarrassing I've been there so know how your feeling xxxxx

  • Hi laura/ sarah

I hope you dont mind me jumping on your post .

Laura , I have exactly the same symptoms as you.. an.odd smell which then made me feel suspicious as all my checks up to date and I've just found a quite large lump on the back wall of the vagina area.  I am literally terrified.  I'm booked in for a smear anyway monday but will ring them first thing to get an appointment.

Just wondering how yours was found and how you are?

    Thank you donna xxx

  • Hi Donna,

so I had abnormally bleeding at the end of nov/dec and had to keep wearing a panty liner, showed it to my mum one day and we both agreed it wasn't right so I went to the doctors and the nurse looked and said she could see someone the side of my cervix, she rushed me through to an emergency gynaecologist they have to see you within 2 weeks and they did I had a colposcopy and the nurse said she could also see it took 5 biopsy I had a smear last year and it was normal so I mentioned all that to the nurse and she said the chance of it being cancer was small.... two weeks later she called me back and I was diagnosed with stage 1 vaginal cancer it was very small I had it all removed but had a fraction of treatment chemo/radiotherapy just in case the naked eye missed tiny particles this was all through lockdown I found the treatment tough I didn't lose my hair but it made me very sick, I'm now in early menopause cause radiotherapy ruined my ovaries but all my doctors told me this would happen, I'm waiting to hear from the doctor Wednesday for my hormone blood results, should be having an MRI in the next two weeks and then results on the 1october with what I hope is good news!

you will be fine just think positive I know it's easier said than done, I had to do it all alone because of covid it was tough but you find the strength, pls let me know how you are, I'm here if you need advice/chat

    love Laura xxxxx
