Waiting for Breast Unit Referral

Hi All,

I'm 27 and happened to brush past a small lump in my left breast just below the nipple last weekend, I got an appointment with the GP first thing on Monday morning and she was great about it. She thought given its texture, shape and size it was most likely to be a fibrous lump/cyst but referred me to the breast unit for further investigation.

I am very vigilant for changes and regularly check my breasts but since the appointment on Monday I've been an absolute wreck. I can't sleep, eat, think happy thoughts, I just keep thinking the worst.

Everyone keeps saying try not to worry but it's so difficult and I feel so alone. I've been speaking to my mum a lot as she had a lump a few years back where she has bashed her breast by accident but I feel bad for telling her my worst fears because I'm sure they're hers as well.

I think not having a date yet for the scan is making it worse and reading other people's experiences have helped. Hopefully I get my scan letter soon.

  • Hi there,

My initial date for the breast clinic was two weeks after referral.  However, when I rang the hospital (as advised by my GP) they were able to offer me an earlier date thanks to a cancellation. This means I went through the scans and biopsy 10 days earlier.  Worth trying?

Currently still waiting for the results though as the bank holiday weekend means no consultants are available to see me before next Wednesday!

    Take care,

    Nancy

  • Thanks Nancy- I'll give that a go first thing tomorrow. Thanks for your reply!

I hope you can get your results as quickly as possible.
