Breast Cyst Biopsy

Hi all,

Shortly after trying to breastfeed my son (just turned 18 months) I developed 2 lumps in my left breast. I immediately went to the doctors who referred me to the breast unit at the hospital.

Following an ultrasound they confirmed that they were 2 cysts and nothing to worry about and offered to drain them for me (which I had done). They did warn me they may fill up again and I could have them drained again or leave them alone.

They did fill up again shortly after and in November last year I had them drained again.

I recently noticed they had filled up again so went to the hospital on Monday and they were concerned about a solid lump within one of the cysts. They performed a biopsy on me and I am now waiting the results.

The wait is awful as I am sure many of you have gone through. My mum started off having cysts then went on to have breast cancer then it spread to many other places 4 years later (from which she sadly passed away). I can't help but feel like I am heading down the same route and all I can think of is my little boy and it breaks my heart to think if anything happened to me what would he do?

Does anyone have any advice, or have been in a similar situation?

Thank you - Sarah xx

  • Hi Sarah i had quite a large cyst a couple of years ago which i didnt even feel but was picked up on my mammogram. Like you i had it drained and that was that was sent on my way. Forward to February this year had my mammogram which was fine and then an ultrasound which picked up another cyst but a lot smaller, so it was left alone. Im am now awaiting an appointment form the breast clinic as ive had a couple of spots of blood in my bra on different occasions from the same breast. I call it the pesky one and am thinking the cyst might have grown or theres another one. Ive had a prod as you do but not sure if i can feel anything different. I hope everything turns out ok for you x
