Earache, sore neck, trouble swallowing!

Hi Everyone,

Apologies for this long post in advance.

I'm 51 yes old and worried .

I'm issues started in march 2020, just before COVID 19 hit. I was suffering from a runny nose, felt id be coming down with a heavy cold, but that didn't happen. I got left earache within days lossed my hearing and then became really unwell, with similar COVID symptoms. Couldn't talk as coughing so much. It was awful.

Hearing still badly reduced. Weight loss over half a stone.

Off work for 5 months, just returned the last 2 weeks.

Was referred by GP to ENT re hearing issues and pain, so much ear pressure. Id had 3 lots of antibiotics, 2 lots of steroid sprays for nose, 2 spray for ear, nothing worked, as well as pain killers and anti-inflammatory meds.

I had a video consultation with ENT, he said ear issues were down to the migraine I suffer from, but would send me for MRI to rule anything out.

Results came back mild Sinus disease and chronic ear infection in left ear.

3 weeks after the MRI all my neck on left side is sore, feels swollen, can't move it much, I'm struggling to swallow as my (Adams apple area) of my throat feels swollen, yet I don't have a sore throat.

I have a large gland on the left that appears to pop out or is there all the time.

My collar bone areas hurt/ache, I have central pain in my chest and a lower back ache, and I'm extremely tired  all of the time  lately, within the last 3 week.

I requested another video consultation with consultant, saw a different one this week, he informed me he was not concerned about my MRI scan, he couldn't see anything there!!? I questioned this as my report stated different, again he said his not concerned.

I explained how I was now feeling, still suffering earache, hearing loss and new symptoms, again he stated he was not worried, probably lymph nodes as I may have an infection ?? But he told me he didn't think I had one ??

But can't be sure about any of this as he needs to see me in clinic for a face to face clinical Appointment.

I've made the silly mistakes of googling everything, but I'm feeling awful, not well, but now made to feel that the last 5 months have all been a lie as I've not got anything wrong yet I clearly have ....

Can anyone understand this ?

Sorry again for such a long post

X

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat, sjonny001.

I'm sorry to hear you're feeling that level of discomfort and confusion with the medical assessment you had so far.

I would say for you not to worry until you have a chance to see your doctor face to face but with so much conflicting information I know this is easier said than done so do try to occupy your mind with other things in the meantime, if at all possible. And yes, keep away from "Dr. Google", looking things up in a wealth of unverified information usually makes things worse.

Hopefully, other forum members who have had similar symptoms will be along shortly to chat with you, as talking to those who can relate does seem to help.

The other thing I wanted to mention is that if you want to give our nurses a call and ask them some questions, they are available on this number 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday, between 9 a.m - 5 p.m.

Once you know more, please come back to give us an update.

    Best wishes,

    Renata, Cancer Chat Moderator
