8 months pregnant and waiting for biopsy results

Hi everyone

So my story. I found a lump on my right breast about 3 weeks ago about 2cm by 2cm, not painful, no skin or rash issues. As I am 8 months pregnant I thought I would discuss with my midwife. She believed it to be collection ducts filling up but to check with the doctors. So I rung the doctors and they put me with a nurse who also wasn't overall concerned due to the fact that I'm pregnant. However she conversed with the doctor on site who said to be on the safe side to be referred to the breast clinic.

Which lead to today. My family do have a history of

Cysts so believed it would probably be that. However after having my ultrasound, mammogram (with leaded apron) and 2 biopsy taken. The consultant surgeon said it's 9/10 cancerous. I saw 5s on my paperwork. One good point is that it's not in my lymph nodes yet.

My partner took the day of work to be on the safe side and stayed in the car until I got told is was not good.

However it is such a shock and now I have an appointment on Monday 24th and if it is cancerous then on Tuesday 25th I will have a consultation with a Labour consultant who will decide if I need inducing so they can start my treatment.

I can say I'm pretty terrified thinking I will have a new born baby and have to go through cancer treatment.

My partner is self employed so he will be a big help with the visits and so forth. But finances will become an issue as I will be on satutory maternity leave.

Bad news at what should be such a good time in our lives, as the consultant said

Currently not thinking about the worse as can't do anything until Monday.

I just wanted to tell my story so far as I never realised how many people are living with cancer.

Thanks for reading

  • Hi Cathy89

Welcome to the forum although I'm very sorry that you find yourself here particularly at a time when you should be full of excitement for the arrival of your baby.

Facing a cancer diagnosis is scary but if your biopsy does show that you need treatment, you will have a good team of Dr's and nurses to support you through things.

You might find it helpful to give our team of nurses a call to chat things through before your appointment next week. I'm sure that they will be able to give you some support and advice about things that you may want to ask at your results appointment. You can call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

If you do have positive biopsy results next week I'd also suggest getting in touch with the Younger Breast Cancer Network (have a look on Google) where I know you'll be able to connect with others who have been through similar.

Do let us know how you get on next week.

    Sending my best wishes,
