Hysteroscopy/biopsy/polypectomy - no anaesthesia

Hi everyone,

Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong place, I just want to ask for some advice but this is my first time using the forum...

I had a hysteroscopy today and a biopsy taken for bleeding between periods and other symptoms.

While the consultant was doing the procedure, she found some polyps and said she could refer me to have those operated on under general anaesthetic, which I agreed to.

However, she then started cutting away and removing them despite me not consenting to it, and I repeatedly asked her to stop as I was in so much pain. I wasn't given any anaesthetic or painkillers.

I'm somewhat worried about the biopsy results anyway but the whole experience was pretty horrible, and the consultant kept ignoring me. Should I make a complaint? Or just get on with it and forget about it?

  • Hello Isabellel

I'm sorry to hear that you've had an unpleasant experience at your appointment this week. It's understandable tha tyou're feeling worried about things.

You might want to think about getting in touch with your hospital PALS department about your experience. Even if you decide not to make a formal complaint, you can still offer feedback about what has happened and how it left you feeling. If you awnt to change your Consultant following on from this appointment then they will be able to assist with that as well.

I do hope that you have some good news with the biopsy results.

    Best wishes,
