Dimple in breast

Hi! First time posting.

I noticed a dimple in my right breast to the lower right part when my arm is raised, you have to have the lighting right to be able to see it!

Ive visited the doctor who referred me to the breast clinic for a mammogram although the doctor couldn't see it I had to show her a photo, she said she couldn't feel any lumps.

fast forward I attended the clinic, was given an ultrasound instead of a mammogram no idea why? Didn't ultrasound my armpit even though i told them its sore when pressed. had my results they say everything looks fine.

I can't help feeling fobbed off, should they have given me a mammogram? Feel like because the doctor couldn't see it they weren't worried.

  • Hi Amy,

I had a dimple in my right breast too. Could see it when I lifted my arm and could see a slight dent when taking a shower.

I had always been a bit lumpy on that side but mammograms showed nothing.

When I found this dimple, contacted my GP who saw me that day. She thought  it was fibrocystic breasts but referred me to the breast clinic.

Not sure why they didn’t give you a mammo, maybe because they couldn’t feel a lump and I think the ultrasound can see things the mammo can’t.

I had mammo and ultrasound, biopsies - 37mm ductal invasive tumour. Had lumpectomy about a month ago, no spread to the lymph nodes. Oncotype score low so no chemo straight to radiotherapy.

Please push for further investigations, even if this means paying for a private appointment with a breast specialist. I know this is expensive but you can’t put a price on your life.

Dimples can be there for many reasons, usually it is nothing but it seems your lymph nodes are sore so they at least need to find out why.Whether you are fighting an infection etc.

Wishing you all the best, Jane.

  • Hi, this how how my breast looked around a month ago or so ago, the lighting had to be right to see the that something looked off.  Now my boob changes shape when I lean forward with my arm raised.

I only realised just how much it's changed last week and was quite shocked.  The doctor saw me straight away and made an urgent breast screeening referral, I'll be having it looked at next week.

My boob initially looked like there was some shadowing underneath the nipple.  When raising my arm it looked like it could have been a bruise but on closer inspection it wasn't so I didn't think much of it.

A couple of weeks later a dimple, only noticeable in the correct light and with my arm up, and now the dimple is a little deeper and my boob makes an almost rounded W shape when I lean forward and raise my arm.  My doctor described this as tethering. I also get a strange burn sensation but not often and itching episodes but again not often. I have lost a lot of weight fast and other symptoms which may be unrelated but I'm also getting this looked into separately next week. I don't know what's going on with me but should get some answers soon.

I second what Jane has written here, if things don't look or feel right to you please see your GP again.

I don't have any lumps either but hoping they will give me a mammogram or ultrasound as it's just not normal.

Good luck and best wishes to both of you.
