My husband of 53, fit, runner, had some stomach pains 6 weeks ago, they treated him for gastritis. Two blood tests were taken and they showed liver function was aabnormal. They sent him for an ultrasound, immediately sent for a CT scan where they found a blockage in his bile duct. We were sent to see a consultatn who told us that an ERCP would be done as he thought that the blockage would prove to be a stone and he wasnt too worried about the lession on the liver. There was no stones to be found but an ulcerated area which they have taken a biopsy from and he has had a stent fitted. The consultant spoke to him the next morning and let him know that he is pretty sure that it will show it to be cancerous and that an operation will be needed to remove the cancerous area. He will now need scans to see if it has spread. Ive read enough to know that we will be very lucky if it hasn't.
Im keeping an eye on him to make sure that there is nothing adverse happening after the stent has been fitted. It seems to be helping him stop itching and his skin is less yellow now.
I am kind of aware this is serious and life threatening yet still in this surreal position of thinking he surely could die soon as he is so well.
What do I need to be doing, preparing for?
We've been married for 33 years and have two daughters 23 and 21.
