Critical Illness Claim andKidney Cancer

Hi. I've recently been diagnosed with a 5.5cm tumour no my left Kidney. It's been dealt with really quickly and I'm due to have the whole Kidney removed early September. I'm pretty positive about the outcome but a little apprehensive about the surgery although it will be keyhole. Does anybody out there have any experience with claiming on a critical illness insurance via Legal and General? What stage/size does a tumour have to be to trigger a claim? Many thanks and good luck to all those out there who have had the terrible news

  • Hi Westy and welcome to the forum.

Hopefully some of our members who have experience of this will get back to you soon but I hope this information we have on our website will help answer some of your questions.

It may be worth getting in touch with Macmillan as well as they have financial advisors that you can discuss this with.

I hope you're able to get this sorted soon and wish you all the best with your surgery in September.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi,

I was just wondering how you got on with claiming on your critical illness policy? I'm 2 weeks post op but had an open surgery to remove my kidney. I've been trying to find info on critical illness but it's all very confusing so would be interested to see how you got on. I hope you recovered well.

    many thanks.

  • Hi

Firstly sorry to hear your diagnosis and secondly I'm glad you've had it dealt with and I hope your are recovering well.  I had my op at the end of august and I've recovered really well thanks.

The critical illness claim all went really smoothly. My tumour was T1 N0 M0 and legal and general paid out without any fuss at all. I'd have to say they were brilliant through the process of claiming.

They did tell me that I can't have another CI policy until I've been 2 years clear.

    Good luck with your claim.

  • Thanks for your quick reply. I'm so glad you've recovered well and that you got your payout, it gives me some hope that I might get mine. I just need to wait for my follow up appointment then I can proceed with my claim. Many thanks again and I wish you the best of health for the future x

  • Thanks

It was a really straightforward process I just opened a claim with L&G entered the details, the consultant sent the histology report and my GP sent my notes. Didn't take long to complete the process at all.

    hope all goes well.

  • Hopefully mine works out that easily as well, would be nice for something good to come out of all this stress and pain.

  • Well that's the claims process started! My pathology results came back as T3a N0 M0 , leibovich score was Intermediate. They have said if i get my letter from the hospital it might have enough info that they canuse to decide, not sure if that's a good or bad sign? They will still be contacting my GP and consultant anyway. x

  • I know it's a long shot but I was wondering how you got on with your clam with Legal and General.

I had my right kidney removed 3 weeks ago due to a 6.5cm tumour. I have completed my claim form with Legal and General. Im now just waiting for historiography report.

No idea if my policy will pay out.

  • Hi, luckily my policy paid out. I totally though i wouldn't get anywhere with it so was in total shock when they called me to say they were going to pay out ( i burst into tears). Good luck and i hope your recovery is going well?
