Lump awaiting appt

Newbie reaching out for advice and help 

Ive always had what I thought were lumpy tissued breast especially after my breastfeeding journeys but I found an obvious lump several weeks ago and saw GP who has referred me on fast track. (Appt next week) By the time I saw the GP the lump was tender (not sure if it was me making it tender) but no skin changes/signs of infection ie redness. At the time my breasts felt firmer (?cycle) 

now breast are softer lump feels less prominent, would they see on ultrasound or mammogram (age 41) if it's a cyst that had been there. Will it have completely disappeared on ultrasound or would there be some evidence of it previously been there?

    Hi Naew,

    Welcome to our forum, although I'm sorry to hear of the symptoms that have brought you here. I am glad to hear that you have got an appointment with the breast clinic next week. Many ladies have naturally lumpy breasts. Breast cancer is not normally accompanied by pain, with the exception of the tenderness caused by us continually feeling our breasts for any changes.

    I am not a doctor, just another breast cancer pioneer.

    I would expect that even if your lumps are softer and smaller, you should still be able to see this on mammogram or ultrasound and, you will usually have a biopsy too. This identifies whether the lump is cancerous or benign. You will not always get your results at your first appointment. There is normally a wait of 1-2 weeks to get your results.

    i am scared my friend who was 32 had both breast removed during her gruelling treatment and it makes me think we are all at risk. 
    I'm hoping they tell me it's a cyst, if the suspected lump (cyst) has gone will they be evidence that it was there and not wasted the clinics time.
    I have an autoimmune disease with ailments and prior to my diagnoses I was sent for tests year after year due to symptoms and left deflated when nothing found as I knew something was wrong. Then eventually I was found to have the autoimmune with now significant health needs due to delay.

    Hi Naew,

    I can undrstand your worries given your previous experience, but the tests for cancer corrobrate with one another, leaving false results very rare. I am not a doctor, but suspect that, If the suspected lump has gone, there will still be changes to be seen on scans. I sincerely hope that there is a simple explanation for your lumps.

    I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer. First time around I had a lumpectomy, then a year later I had a double mastectomy for the second bout.That was 11 years ago and, I'm pleased to say that I am still here and, with a good quality of life. A positive diagnosis may seem like the end of the world, but we can get through this if we have to.
