Borderline cell changes are the lowest form of abnormality so that’s actually really positive! Often no treatment is required as the cells can return to normal without any intervention, so it would just be another smear in a year to check. The colposcopy allows a close look at the cervix, and then if necessary a biopsy can be taken, or treatment offered if required. But borderline changes may well not need that. The hpv virus is there forever however and cannot be removed. It can go dormant and not be active, therefore not causing any cell changes, but it can cause changes when it’s active. It all depends on how effective your immune system is. 

Hopefully it is just borderline changes, and then there really is no need to be unduly concerned. Anything more than that will picked up at the colposcopy. Good luck with your appointment and feel free to ask if you’ve got any questions about it. 

Thank you for your reply.. from what I've seen this is quite a common result but I'm still really stressed about it, I keep thinking the worse. I just hope my colposcopy appointment comes through quickly.

I have just had the same result through, can I just ask how long you had to wait for you app to come through ?

The appointment came within a day or so and I went for my appointment a couple of weeks later so pretty quick really. 
Try not to worry! I was in and out pretty quickly and the staff were amazing.. good luck I'm sure you will be fine. 

I had my smear back today.

borderline changes and HPV virus found. being sent for a colposcopy.

all smears normal before this.

im absolutely terrified.

Please try not to worry! I had borderline changes and made myself bad stressing about it. When I went to the hospital the staff were really lovely and in the end I didn't need any treatment at all. Borderline line changes are more common than you think and often need no further action... 

but i also have hpv....

ive been shaking since i found out.

i feel so scared x

Hpv is a very common virus!  Please try not to worry.... talk to your gp or discuss it at your hospital appointment, they can answer any questions you have.

Please talk to someone who can try and put your mind at ease until your hospital appointment... I know exactly how you are feeling I've been through it myself. 

I have spoken to my gp whos says its boderline.

im worried when i go they are going to find something worse. and then ill have to have checks all the time for the rest of my life.

im worried about the hpv and that ill have it forever.

I was worried as well but borderline changes more than likely will not need treatment. I was fine and just told to carry on with smears every three years. As for hpv most people have had it sometime in their life and your immune system usually clears it with a couple of years... if not regular smears will keep on top of the problem.

do you not worry now you have hpv and changes that at some point itll change? i dont want to be living on a knife edge forever xx

Hpv can leave your system within a few years and as long as you are having regular smears you should be fine...what you have to remember is that it is a very common virus and most people will have had it at some point and never known. 

Let me know how you go on... try not to get too worried about things, I was really worried but everything is fine now.
