Breast lump and biopsy

Hi I went in for a routine mammagram last Friday as my right breast was really painful and my gp wasn't sure why do referred me she checked both breasts and never felt Anything untoward ... when I had my mammogram etc and saw the consultant the left breast was fine he said It was muscular but he felt a lump in the right breast so I went back in for an EE ultrasound to check at first she couldn't even see what he was feeling but then found it and said she didn't think it was anything to worry about but did a biopsy to 'dot the i's and cross the t's' the consultant said it was a 'grey area' lump and that they couldn't determine either way... I'm awaiting the results now has anyone else this??

    Hi Tapperrach,

Welcome to our forum. This is always a worrying time as you wait for results. Most consultants are totally honest with their thoughts. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 11 years. On both occasions, my consultants told me at my first visit that they were pretty sure that I had cancer, but that they couldn't diagnose this until my results came back. Unfortunately, they were right on both occasions.

I know that the waiting is extremely scary, but I'm sure that, if there is anything there, you would want to catch it as early as possible. The sooner you catch something like this the better your outcome is likely to be. Try to keep yourself as busy as possible to distract yourself from the wait. Have you been told when you will get your results yet? Do please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Tapperrach,

I'm glad to hear that you got your results today, although I'm sure that they weren't the results you were hoping for.  Still, on the whole this is not a bad result, It is a small tumour and it is oestrogen receptive. Have they checked your lymph nodes, or do they intend to leave it until you have your surgery? It is good news that you don't need chemo. I hope that you have people that you can rely on for support despite all that you are going through.

It sounds as if you have more than enough to deal with at the moment. I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your dad last year.Life often heaps more on top of us when we feel that we cannot cope with any more.

Do you know what grade and type of breast cancer you have?

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.
