Dimpling & lump in right breast

Hello I'm Helene (44yrs young ),

Last Wednesday I found a dimple/indentation in my right breast when arms raised looking in mirror.  I remembered a Facebook post about never ignoring these, so I phoned GP & was seen that lunchtime.  Upon examination GP had found a lump behind the dimple and referred me to breast clinic on Monday 10th August.  I know I am to expect scans etc but as I am going by myself I wanted to know what to expect?

The eerie thing is I have never done this before as in checking myself this way, I had an inner voice tell me whilst in shower to stand in front of mirror and lift arms & check.  So someone was looking down on me that day
Any advice at all would be great xx

  • Hi Helene

Sorry you find yourself on here, but good you are getting it checked out. When I went to the clinic, I was seen by a consultant who did a thorough investigation and circled anything they thought didn't feel right, I then had a mammogram and then an ultra sound. Most people at this point are told that everything is clear and they are free to go. Sometimes the consultants will take biopsies (doesn't mean they've found any cancer, but maybe something that looks a bit suspicious and needs investigating). In my case they did biopsies and I was told that they thought it was breast cancer, but I had to wait another week to get the results of the type of breast cancer it was.
I think the statistics are 8 out of 10 people who go to the clinic are given the all clear (I was just one of the unlucky ones!!!) and probably on here you will find lots of stories of people who have gone to the clinic and it turns out to be cancer compared to people who have been given the all clear.

Good luck for next week, let us know how you get on, and if you have any more questions, just ask! X

  • Hello sunshine,

could I ask, when you went to BC for the initial scans & mammogram, dud they just concentrate on the one breast or checked both again thoroughly?

  • No they did both breasts, my concultant looked at the "good" one first, then the suspicious one!
