I am very sorry to hear about your diagnosis. 

It's impossible to advise on this and you need to go with what doctor suggests. 

I am waiting for results after my right thyroid removal 2 weeks ago and dreading if I have to make the same choice.

If the cancer is 2+cm, its a definite full thyroidectomy and iodine, if less than that, it's dependent on individual case, but there are chances no more operation is needed. 

If doctor recommends, may be you should go with it?

Hi, thank you for replying. I really hope your results come back ok. 
Mine was just under 4cm!! How strange they have said that to you. 
My doctor wouldn't advise me one way or the other he said it had to be my choice. After doing some research they seem to prefer the "watch and wait" approach but I'm so scared of making the wrong decision.

They didn't tell me anything, it's just me doing research and that's what people with thyroid cancer say. There is Macmillan forum too ...

4 cm is pretty big. Its impossible to know if any cancer cells are gone in another half, if you decide to keep it, it will always be in the back of your mind, what if...

There is a lady here, missymay I think, she had your diagnosis but keeping her other thyroid part and no iodine.. you can search for her posts, may be it will help.. but I think hers was smaller....

What biopsy results did you have? Mine was thy3a, and I am breaking my eyes on google trying to figure out what percentage of cancer that is... my lump was quite big, 7x5cm, but benign half a year ago, so hoping still its not too bad lol.

Oh right I see.....my biopsy came back as inconclusive then on further investigation they said I had a 30% chance of it being cancer. Lockdown then happened so had to wait to have it removed! 
I haven't got a clue what yours means so can't help you there sorry. 
yours is big, how often do you get it checked?

Hi. Hope you don't mind me asking but did you have a FNA and how long did you have to wait for the results. My lump on my thyroid is 5cm had a fna on the 21st and still waiting for results im going out my mind with worry. Xx

Hey, i am sorry you have to go through this worry.

First time when I had it done, I waited for 4 weeks for results.i was freaking out and  started to chase the hospital, as it was so long. Then they called me saying its benign and I received the letter confirming it one month later.

Second time though, they called me 3 days after biopsy, saying there have been changes and I need an operation. 

ENT departments in different hospitals work in different ways, so please do not take it as definite, but if there is something to be concerned about,  they will be in touch very very soon.

No news in the first week is good news hopefully:)

Thank you so much. Yes hoping no news is good news as I've still not heard back yet. 

I had the same thing happen to me I had a fna and was told it was fine. Then when it was checked by a different person I got a recall to go in and get the nodule removed. Luckily it was benign when tested. I am now again going through the same process, just waiting to see surgeon about a partial removal of thyroid and hopefully I get the same result as last time.
