Scared about change in breast 23 y/o

Hi,

I don't really know where to go with this but I'm having serious health anxiety every night. I have had chest pains for the last month and the nurse I spoke to over the phone at my GP surgery diagnosed this to be costochondritis. End of last week I noticed a small red patch on my breast, almost looks like an insect bite or could be infection(?) which seemed to appear overnight. However it hasn't gone down or changed since I discovered it and it's nearly a week on. Phoned nurse back and she doesn't think I need a breast examination due to my young age. Is it worth pushing to see a GP about this? I've always been told that any changes to appearance of breast must be checked out.

Please can someone provide advice - feel like I have nowhere to go and it seems impossible to get through to any GP at the moment.

  • Wow almost identical situation -- a lump in my breast that looks like an insect bite appeared overnight  6 weeks ago. It got bigger and then a second identical lump turned up on my other breast. Got through to the GP and had an exam, they told me it was probably a localised infection caused by big breasts and friction.  Unfortunately the swelling had gone down slightly and the GP said they could not feel the lumps even though I had picture evidence.

Two weeks later, lumps are back and the area is tender and swollen. I'm sure it's just hormonal, as are yours, but would also really like to get some proper clarification. I'm going to call my GP back tomorrow - I'd recommend doing the same and stressing that the area feels tender etc. Because they're so quick to dismiss younger women! Hopefully just a cyst etc. but I've also had some awful anxiety around it.

  • Thank you so much for your reply! I guess that could be it, as it has been my time of the month, but of course any change is concerning.

I think anxiety about this has been made worse as the nurse didn't think it was necessary for me to be examined, and used my age as an excuse.

Alsonoticed a tiny lump under the area last night, so will do the same and keep trying to get hold of a GP.

    Wishing you all the best
